Great movie IMO. As they said it has this sort of strange balance that makes it a great movie

i watched it alone on a 75" samsung QLED and thought it was very interesting

its like a more coherent version of "Inherent Vice", but it does wander in the middle quite a bit

for me i would say 7.5/10

The scene where the girl first walks past the pool with the Captain Kirk lighting was basically a straight rip off from Blue Velvet where Laura Dern's character is introduced by coming out of the darkness and into the light of the streetlamp... which was probably an homage to Hitchcock, but whatev.

Its ending saved it for me. It wasn't bad, but I don't feel like watching it again.

Magical realism = all of those Orphic references we didn't understand: i) The right eye of Horus as a portal to Orpheus as the songwriter is ripped directly out of a careful reading of the history of philosophy and the history of Greco/Egyptian culture more generally (remember. it is Bacchus, Orpheus, Pythagoras); ii) the sordid mysteries of Abrasax, Yaldabaoth and the (highly recommended) homemade Ambrosia of Eleusis; and iii) the disappointing realization that a careful reading of the aforementioned articles of history will only lead to a deeper state of confusion if you take it all too seriously.

Just watched it and loved it. My take on the Dog Killer: At some Point he's talking to the daughter of the murdered mogul and she basically sets dogs equal to unconditional love. I think he is a dog, because he follows all those threads to find the girl he loves without knowing anything about her. Also: Hollywood kills uncoditional love, henceforth he doesn't save her in the end … he settles for something else.

Under the silver lake could also be a metaphor for the silver screen, and the fact that there is a deep deep murky place behind that silver screen that drowns those who fall behind it. The screen is a silver lake basically

i liked the atmosphere and the owl scenes were fucking terrifying. However i thought that Andrew Garfields Character was extremely unlikeable and the story didn't develop in a way i could make sense of it. I'm very much into Mulholland Drive, Twin Peaks and Lost Highway and i am still struggeling to imagine why the movie has so many plots that lead into nowhere. At least that's my perception. I wished that they portrayed the detective work somehow understandable. I would have preffered if it was Mulholland Drive meets Brick. That would have been cool.

That issue is a post-Mysterio story that involves the first appearance of the clone of Gwen Stacy. That parallels a bit to the movie's story but also creepily to the theme. This movie was in production before the reveal that Mysterio would be Far from Home's villain. Nobody finds that ominous with what the story was about?

All of you people who are speaking about “oh it’s a BIG criticism of Hollywood” are part of the joke. None of this shit matters and I guess that’s the only true message of this terrible, yet incredibly well made movie.

The scene with Seven's daughter walking along the highway where he suggested the difference between killing a person and an animal, and saying it was not equitable, suggests he's not the dog killer.

And then homeless shit talking I thought was half the reason for the king ready to kill him.

The conspiracy mask hoarder may be the dog killer because he wasn't able to get a family or complete the map, to find "success." He was tied to the Owl murderer, maybe making him in that circle, also "beware the dog killer" being older and worn out on the coffee shop later in the movie might suggest it had a resolution.

I’m pretty sure that all dogs represent women in the movie. That’s why they bark in it. Also the majority(if not all) of the dogs are owned by women too. When Andrew Garfield says his dog died recently, he meant his girlfriend broke up with him a little while back. The dog killers(topher grace says there might be more than one), are old white dudes. This is why in the dream sequence when you see the dog being eaten, it’s actually an old white guy eating it. At the end, when Andrew Garfield is saying how he wants to pet the dog, he wants to be with his old girlfriend. So the dog killers are white dudes who objectify women. That’s why at the end you’re not sure if Andrew Garfield is a dog killer. Does he objectify women enough to add to the problem is the question I think was trying to be asked. I guess it’s up to the viewer.
