    There are a lot of factors that you must consider when fat loss is one of the two primary goals of your workout program (building muscle is the other). In either case, the belief that all calories are created equal is the worst diet mistake you can make, as I'll show you in this video.

    The rate and degree of fat loss that you can achieve is really determined by a lot of factors including how much body fat you have to lose, the amount of muscle you have, the speed of your metabolism, etc. One of the ones that is impacted every day however is the way you approach your meal plans and calories.

    Because of the concept of "nutragenomics", all calories are certainly not created equal or treated by your muscles as equal. In order to maximize muscle growth, you need to really review the type of fat loss efforts you're making. How clean is your diet really? Should you even be counting calories?

    Exactly, also different calories are processed in different ways. *Insulin* effect etc and different effects on fat metabolism; and.. types of calories *burn* more calories than others just *to digest* . Would be good to see that conversation in a vid jeff.

          The other thing that comes to mind is that eating the empty calorie candy would not make you full and screws you for the rest of the day. Over the weeks, months and years bad eating choices add up.

                  I believe the saying has merit in contexts when someone thinks he or she can eat an unlimited amount of nuts, dried fruits, avocado and those kind of things, thinking it's healthy.

                    A calorie is a calorie is valid if you only care about weight loss and absolutely nothing else (i.e. I just want to lose certain pounds and I don't give a shit about muscle and health). If you eat at a caloric deficit, then yes, no matter what you're eating, let it be ice cream, chips, french fries, chocolate...etc, you'll lose weight.

                        I've never thought about nutrition before. I've been listening to the model health show on spotify and they teach nutrition for health rather than doctors and pills which should be a last resort. It's about being smarter and living a healthier lifestyle for our kids not just ourselves. Thanks Jeff for providing a wealth of amazing content

                                  Macros and nutrition are more important than calories. Just eat enough and eat clean. Yes you can have something like a cookie or dessert or a slice of pizza but in moderation. It's all good as long as you mostly eat clean.

                                        @kungfuman82 I build Ferrari's in my Mechanic Shop actually and they are better than anything their factories can make. TOP QUALITY SHIT. I can build anything using a 3d printer and 3rd party parts. But not even my creations last as long as Toyotas. I am super human with an IQ of 150 and I race cars on the track in my free time. But Toyota is like god. They have many engineers as good as me

                                      Jeff noticed that the size of the snicker bar has changed since he was young. Snack food companies have been doing this for decades. The drop a little bit of size of their snacks figuring no one will notice and then I the keep the price the same or only slightly bring the price up. Either the way tons of profit. Sneaky bastards.

                                        A calorie is a calorie! That’s like saying a watt isn’t a watt. A calorie is a unit , the energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water through 1 °C .

                                          He probably eats 300g of protein. I still can't wrap my mind around not tracking. How do I know that I'm hitting my macros? What if I end up eating too much protein and too little good fats?

                                              Idk, I always thought you needed a wide variety of foods to be healthy but my buddy on the carnivore diet says he doesn’t need vitamins and fiber and all that stuff. He eats steak, bacon, eggs and cheese ONLY. Nothing else. He says it’s the best he’s ever felt. He lifts and is losing weight.

                                              Do we really need to eat “healthy”? Why doesn’t he feel like crap and have health problems? Maybe it’s over a longer time that issues develop. Idk.

                                                  So this explains why when I’m training and on around 2000 cal a day of mcd and subways I get fat as fuck, but when I switch to 2500 cal a day of chicken, wholewheats,veggies, eggs etc with the same training I seem to re compose. Stomach goes away and muscles pump up. I couldn’t rack my brain around why with technically more calories, yet much healthier options, I can eat more calories and get entirely different results

                                                    When we are talking about losing/gaining weight, it is simply calories in, calories out. Doesn't matter what you eat as long as you hit your macronutrient needs, no argument.

                                                    Now if we are talking about health, then you need food containing high amounts of micronutrients, which is completely a different discussion. These nutrients may *assist* with weight loss due to our bodies running more efficiently.

                                                    The take home message is, nobody is perfect, and should not be expected to eat 100% clean. Eat clean 80%-90% of the day while hitting your macro/micro needs and you will be well on your way.

                                                          Alot of the comments on here are missing the fact that 200 cals of white sugar is processed by the body differently than 200 cals of say baked chicken. More of the 200 cals of sugar is stored as fat as the body has strict limits to how much you can use at one time and the rest gets stored to avoid a damaging level of blood sugar. Its not all about calories when different substances are processed by the body through different pathways and hormones.

                                                                If choosing between the Snickers bar and kale - I shouldn't eat Snickers bar, but I wouldn't eat kale because it would be gross and boring and time consuming and exhausting. (Actually life-shortening/life-wasting experience)

                                                                What's better then - not to eat at all or eat kale?

                                                                Cause I don't like my stomach to feel heavy.
                                                                I want to be able to jump-around run-around afer the meal, still feeling light.

                                                                  I like how honest this guy is, he even expressing it unconsciously with his body language when he touches his nose at 1:03 which is a gesture indicating that the person found something that he considers negative (as far as i know), which is in this case the quality of calories.

                                                                              If a calorie isn't a calorie then how can there be any such thing as a calorie at all? Either a calorie is a calorie, foods are calorically miscounted, or there's no such thing as a calorie.

                                                                                A calorie is a calorie. It's like saying what weighs more a kilo of fevers or a kilo of gold. They obviously both weigh the same but one is more dense. 200cal of kale is obviously healthier than 200cal of chocolate with way better nutrients, but as for weight loss or weight management goes they are equal.

                                                                                    Yeah but what if you can just control your urges to have more and every once and a while eat a snickers instead of kale? You'd be getting the same amount of calories (let's assume you get sufficient protein/fiber/vitamins through another source).. so you would maintain your weight.
