It was meant to be for Larry to be who he was and accomplish what he accomplished with his teammates.. a no nonsense guy who couldn’t jump nor was he that fast but when determined he did and could be the best!
I LOVE YOU LARRY BIRD !!!
Larry Bird was the best.
Most beautiful jump shot ever. Smooth as silk. He could play left or right handed. Phenomenal passer and great rebounder. Tough as nails. Often played hurt. I'm not sure there's ever been a more complete player.
People seem to forget that Larry was only really healthy for 6 years. He's easily top 5 all-time and probably the most complete and skilled offensive player in the history of the game. And not only that his game is most suited towards today's era. He would absolutely dominate with less physicality and would have shot more threes. He was totally unguardable one on one when guys could hand-check and mug you off the ball. His intangibles were as good as I've ever seen, definitely basketball savant.
I will love Larry but he never gave props to my man Magic Johnson for bringing the best out of him. Just hear Magic Johnson in his H.O.F.S 🤔
It's really sad that a lot of the comments are about Larry being white. Like the black guys comments are like props dude not bad for a white guy. Clearly you don't know much about life or the game of basketball. If you think in black and white you'll always be what you perceive.
Top 5 nba player of all time, really tough guy as well
I thought I hated LARRY BIRD, but that hate was FEAR, and RESPECT. You know how many clipboards were slammed down by coaches when Bird hit that Dagger "3" with twenty seconds left to put the game out of reach? This guy was a KILLER. He had all the intangibles of a winner. I was a Lakers Fan, and it was pure hell facing those Celtics teams. Bird and Magic saved the game, and revitalized passing and teamwork. It was a great time. As I'm in my Fifties, I look back and Respect Larry Bird the man as well as a player. Does it matter that he was White? Of Course not. His game, like Magic's transcended race. Both weren't the most athletically gifted, but they were the smartest and hard-working who may have ever stepped a foot on the hardwood. Their mutual Greatness wasn't about BLACK OR WHITE. It was about doing whatever it took to get the job done.
FUN FACTS:1. the twitter symbol stands for non other then the bird man.2. They say Larry bird is the only white man that could walk down any street in America, including the hood.3. While MJ was in college, a ball bounced off the rim and rolled over to Larry’s side of the court.(split gym for special event)Michael walked over to get the ball, as Larry pretended to hand it to him, then threw it way over mj’s head, and said “get out of here rook”. Playing it off like he had no clue who MJ was lol...
Great player for sure. Statistical he is in the top eight when you actually look at the stats. Plus he had very good coaching and played with three if not four hall of famers in McHale, Parrish, DJ, and Maxwell. Wouldn't count Cowens or Walton their value was limited. Best player ever is Celtic Bill Russell with 11 championships. Jabbar with 6;Jordan with 6; Magic 4; Bird with 3; James with 3 and Wilt with 2. Chamberlain averaged 30pts and 22.9 rebounds for his career. Jerry West averaged 27 points, 5.8 rbs and 6 assists and only 1 championship. Bird 24.3 pts, 10 rbs, 6.3 assist and 3 champions.
Wow, he didn’t even mention Magic, the one guy who had the most infamous on him and whether he knew it or not, Magic pushed him harder than anyone else in his career!
LET THE BIRD FLY AND SOAR HIGH..!
It's like a WWE POP!!!
Red Auerbach,You were a genius.Thank You 33
Old school basketball was so much better. These were real teams. Teams that worked together to get better. Not cried if their teammate sucked or threw fits cause they didn’t win. They worked and worked and worked til the team they had was the best team it could be. Some had players like Larry, MJ, Magic, to propel them to championships and others had Malone’s and Barkley’s who didn’t win but they never gave up on their teams and never quit. That’s what sports is about. The grit and grind and hussle. Honestly besides the patriots I don’t know any other (US) team who embodies that mentality anymore.
Total class act !!
There are Winners and there are Champions.. You seperated them.
There are winners.. And there are Champions! Nothing seperates them but heart! When you Love something you become the BEST. Silk that J form down down because you LOVE THE GAME MAN.. And We love every step you took to be a champion....
Every behind the back pass.. Every move you ever made as a player. We had the Privilege of seeing.. Every time you were Larry Bird. We were there with you. Play by Play. You stayed low to collect fouls. We were there. Every time you went to the stripe. We were there. Holding our breath. As the ball went in like butter. No need to rebound.
1 min in, he was getting annoyed with the loooooooonng applaud lmao
Larry was sauced when he gave this speech. I love Larry Legend!!
I wish there would have been a televised one on one between him and Jordan to 50. My money is on LB in that dream match.
There will NEVER be another Larry Bird.
The man spent a hot minute just trying to calm down the crowd
