    My article linked below organizes these repairs much better, with a lot more information. It also made Doug DeMuro faint...

      1. 1st model year;
      2. 1st model of a new manufacturer;
      3. low volume production;
      4. Very little prototyping and testing budget;
      5. In-house electronics;
      6. Extremely complicated tech with high priority of performance over repairability or reliability. Kind of a tribute to the best 2000's Audi engineering standards; Toyota manufacturing engineers have heart attacks when they hear of McLaren.
      7. Hand-made;
      8. British.

      What's there to break I say.

      @Jason 2 Mifflin ok buddy i see you are a class act. Why would you buy a used McLaren with many visits to dealer for repairs including replacing the engine and transmission when you could just buy a new one? The new models are much more reliable. Have a great day dumbass.

      Sounds like the dealer had that car making repairs more than the owner had it. I would have ran away from that car.

      For $25K plus options, you can buy a brand new Factory Five GTM super car and drop an LS1 in it. It will run circles around the McLAren and you can buy parts at your Chevy dealer oe Pep Boys.

        Lol, i have a 08 Camry with broken engine mounts which would cost $600 to be like new again which is a lot to me, it has 165k miles and that’s the only thing wrong.

                          Supercars have too much junk on them these days. They shouldn't release cars with this much stuff that can go wrong until they've sorted out ALL the bugs and made every component to the highest standard. Otherwise, it doesn't deserve the title "super" car.

                                This is the funniest Hoovie video ever, without even trying, just presenting the facts. I remember Top Gear reviewing this car, being so proud of the technological achievement, yet being critical of it being clinical and artificial compared to the 458. This presentation shows what it's like to actually live with one of those pieces of cutting-edge British engineering. It's like an Alfa Romeo; fantastic when it works, but an absolute nightmare when it doesn't. No wonder they liked it.

                                            What's amazing is that such cars are designed in this case to go 0-60 in 3.2 secs and 207 mph. Yet the engine and transmission were toast under most likely normal driving conditions for most of its miles. I bet that original owner didn't track the car everyday. Isn't the whole point of a supercar in theory is to drive it hard? That's what's so disgraceful with these things. MP4 isn't the only one. The Italians still can't build a reliable car. Moral of the story. Get a Lexus LFA if you can. Funny how they can figure out how to build a reliable supercar.

It was amazingly dependable after prexious owner had every flaw fixed. I pledged to properly care for it (as alfa dealear still existed) but as working college kid could not afford it. Traded almost for what I bought it for and got an 86 CRX si. The Alfa was one of the coolest cars i ever owned, rhe Honda probably one of the best i ever owned.

                                                                                            Sold a McLaren MP-4-12C to buy a new NSX. It was the best decision I ever made because the McLaren though attractive in many ways was an absolute nightmare to keep on the road. I don't care that McLaren honored the $89,000+ in repairs for the 11 months we kept it! Transmission failure/problems, oil leaks, LED taillights failing, instrument panel lights not working, ECU replacement (2X), leaking struts, creaks rattles, electrical gremlins, parts availability etc. etc. etc. Christ what a beautifully designed but horribly executed and unreliable vehicle. The POS like our Ferrari 348 spent more time in the shop than on the road! Getting into an exotic car and having it start and actually be capable of going on a road trip without having to worry about a problem is truly enjoyable. The NSX is far more reliable, great at everything and better than the McLaren (even when the McLaren was working). The McLaren was never a great car but, it was better (even great at) frustrating and completely ruining your driving experience with its constant issues and breakdowns. Never again.
