What America needs to get to grips with, is that they are a country driven entirely on Capitalist principles. Fairness and 'for the good of the people' are difficult ideals to achieve in a society that is driven entirely on money and cost.
Americans have been brought up for generations since WW2 to fear Communism - rightly so. But they also like to confuse Americans into thinking that Communism and Socialism are the same thing. They are not. They also like Americans to believe that you must have one or the other. This of course is untrue.
Europe is Capitalist but with Socialist healthcare and public services. The free market does not work best in all areas. In order for a society to be fair, equal and working for the best interests of everyone, there needs to be a mix of policies and the understanding that sometimes more money is not the answer.
It's clear to me that the US needs well run Capitalist industries generating money for the public purse. This money should then be plowed back into public services, welfare and healthcare so that society can become more equal.
America is in such a mess because uncontrolled Capitalism has driven them down a 1 way street and with nowhere to go. It's not possible to keep earning more and more without somebody suffering more and more. An unequal society is an unhappy and unstable one. The most stable countries in the world today are countries that have a mix of Capitalist and Socialist policies.
Wealth generation should be in the interests of all in that country. I'm not saying it's a bad thing to do well in life and earn money - i'm just saying that greed has led to the top 2% of the richest Americans own the majority of the countries wealth. And they use that money to make sure that policy never changes. Very dangerous in a Democracy as the people must feel represented or there will be civil unrest.
At the moment the American people have seen the problem but they have found the wrong solution in Trump. In fact, he is just another big part of the problem and will make the whole world a more dangerous place.
Bernie Sanders was the best hope I have ever seen for America and the Democrats didn't select him. How different the world would look today with Sanders as President in the US and Corbyn in charge of the UK. These neo-liberal hypocrites need to go before a large part of the electorate is lost to the extreme right.
